The Clean Up

Updated: Oct 14, 2019

In Jan /Feb 2019 as a result of the grant from the Blue Water Project CRT (contractors Land & Marine) dredged the existing canal up to the workshops from Deepfields Junction. This has resulted in more boats exploring the arm. Spring 2020 the Birmingham Canal navigation Society propose to hold the Spring gathering on the arm adjacent to Loxdale Sidings as a result of the arm now being restored to full navigation. Further dredging below the bottom lock to Moorcroft Junction will be needed. Whilst this section is in water it is fairly polluted. Overhanging trees & shrubs will need to be pollarded. The IWA has a section “Waterways Recovery Group” forestry section who are qualified volunteers to carry out this type of work.
